Schmidtea
Diagnostic description:
This genus is diagnosed by two unequivocal apomorphies, the presence of two seminal vesicles, and a coat of intermingled muscles around de bursal canal.
Distribution:
Schmidtea species live in continental Europe, mostly up to Scotland and Sweden, with the exceptions of S. mediterranea in the western Mediterranean and some populations of S. polychroa in North Africa and South Europe.
Reproduction:
S. polychroa and S. lugubris populations of sexual reproduction lay cocoons between 10ºC and 23-25ºC.
