Dugesia siamana
General description:
Dugesia siamana is a species of free-living freshwater flatworm that inhabits Thailand. It was described by Masaharu Kawakatsu in 1980.
Genetics:
In the original description of Dugesia siamana, Kawakatsu et al. (1980) reported mixoploidy in all the animals analyzed (15 immature specimens in total). They observed diploid and triploid cells intermingled in the same animal. The diploid cells are 2n=16 while the triploid cells are 3n=24. The karyotype is consisting in 7 pairs of meta- or submetacentric chromosomes and 1 pair of large subtelocentric ones.
